Sanguinaria canadensis ‘Multiplex’

Perennial
Shady woodland
Widlflower used by Native Americans as body paint
Roots produce red dyes.
Bloodroot is also an endangered species.

Beware

Rita Buchanan in A Weaver’s Garden, reports that Bloodroot
is very toxic if swallowed, “causing vomiting, dizziness,
nerve damage, and even death…my nose and throat were
inflamed, my face got red, and my head felt like it was
going to burst…I was miserable for hours.”
after carding well rinsed wool dyed with bloodroot.
