Textile Design-Trees

May 25th, 2014

I love the process of taking an image, developing it further and then turning into a repeat pattern. I want both the original design and the repeat pattern to each be complete in themselves but not necessarily have the same feelings.

The original design is a combination of a photograph of trees along the road and hand drawn trees. It was worked into a repeat with strong geometrics.

Gardens, my non digital world

May 8th, 2014

I’m very excited to have finally created a page on Facebook where I could concentrate on my love of gardens and my work which results from it. It is called “Gardens, my non digital world”, after my first blog. I hope you visit and enjoy it at: www.facebook.com/bethemmott.gardens This page has since been repurposed to show my work.

SUMMER: heat brings beauty

Blue Ridge Parkway

May 25th, 2013

From time to time we take time to work on our portfolios. My brother and his wife have moved to TN and as we missed them and had never been to TN, the Skyline Drive, or the Blue Ridge Parkway we combined a visit with a scouting trip.

This may find it’s way into a painting

We drove, we photographed, we hiked, we read, we met interesting people and we had a most wonderful time. Every turn—and there were many—had one incredible view after another. I didn’t take paints as there just wasn’t time but I will work with some of my images and a future trip, staying in one place for a while is in it our minds. I did go to Cheap Joe’s Art Supply in Boone, NC for a shelf for my plein air easel!

Form and Function

I took this image last summer in Canada. I love the way it evolved to do it’s job so well! Break apart and blow about! And it’s beautiful—form and function!

Glass Ball with type

Glass Ball with type

I have a large glass ball. It was once a round-bottom flask that we had the neck cut off for a shot. I keep it in my studio with a tiny wrought iron table that I keep in it and I change things I set on the table from time to time. Today I placed 4 pieces of type, 3 wooden and one metal.

They are all e’s (for Emmott).
