Lancaster Fields
Delivered a painting to a gallery Wed and was asked if I had painted it outside (en Plein Air). No. We had been photographing in Lancaster, PA and I loved the graphic quality of the newly harvested fields. They reminded me of the graphic quality of the quilts made by Amish women in the area, only the quilts were often done in bright bold colors. I wanted to capture that idea.
Process
Once back in my studio I made sketches for my painting. This is the one I went with executed in Oil Pastels. Only then the painting began.
Sketchbook
Some sketchbook work I was doing last summer. First playing around with color. Then, after it dried looking for shapes and patterns to bring out with line. Never know where it might go!

Yikes, Stripes
Have to start thinking in collections, several patterns that work well together without being close variations of each other. This should be fun as I’ve always at least thought of having a co-ordinated stripe to go with a design. In the example below, I like the contrast of the diagonal design with the formality of the stripe.

Finished the course
Finished the Photoshop for Designers course taught by Sherry London. It was great! Even though I know a lot of Photoshop and worked with and taught it for years (since Photoshop 2.5 – omg) I still learned a lot. Some showed up in what I teach and lots showed up in my work, especially about process. And they give you this cute badge!!! Haven’t gotten a badge since Girl Scouts.
