Last Fri evening there was a beautiful double rainbow in Philadelphia.

Condo Rented

March 17th, 2009

We decided to take this property off the market and rent it. After 6 months of no action, we had people vying with each other to rent it—sign of the times. It has been rented to a family from California looking to move “back east”.

What happened to the other side when we reconfigured our studio? The studio itself now has no darkroom space, more office/studio space for computers, still a large shooting space, storage for equipment and an updated kitchen for the more food photography Bob does but, where did all that darkroom etc space go. Well… we made it into a loft/condo. And, it’s for sale.

Our building which was developed into artists lofts in the 1980’s—that’s what the sign over the front door still says—was created as working and living places for artists/designers. Some still work and live there but most units are living only and now there’s one more. Actually our space was always two spaces Unit 3C/D and now 3C is its own separate loft condo.

It’s in a great neighborhood: One block to Whole Foods, Starbucks, CVS, Yoga Studio, Book Store, Restaurants, etc. And, it has indoor parking and the opportunity to add a roof deck.

We’re back…

December 24th, 2008

Yesterday we moved back into our studio!

There are still many things to be done but after months of construction there is enough done that we can work there. Yesterday we moved computers, lights and cameras in and Fri we start shooting!

It’s been a long fall!

It’s raining…

November 14th, 2008

Well, we had fun with the Quiltmakers of Boyertown and saw some very beautiful quilts.
As soon as we got in the car we turned on the radio to check on the Phillies and discovered that out in Boyertown we got lots of static—but the Phillies did win the World Series and Obama did win the election. The economy is still a mess but we spent Halloween in Washington – actually Arlington, great party, discovered “Chevapchichi”—Thanks, Vlad and Jeannie. Bob and I had minimalist costumes – I carried a wrench and Bob a candlestick and we went as the game “Clue”. Cooper was Anakin Skywalker and Fletchie was the Hulk!

Halloween
Happy Halloween!

Our studio is coming along—the semester is almost over—my students drive me nuts sometimes and I’m sure I do them! Actually they are great and keep me on my toes—the future is in good hands!

It’s raining but tomorrow we are going to dinner with friends, known as the Rude People—all the women went to Moore College of Art and Design. This is a different group than the women from Moore with whom I go on Flower Hoaxes but some are the same and all enrich my life.

Color is Energy

October 29th, 2008

I’ll be speaking on Color Theory at The Quiltmakers of Boyertown this Wed (tonight) with my friend and partner in crime, Professor Jane Likens. Our presentation covers the physical properties of color, methods to study color and how different colors influence each other.

We feel that it is most important to understand the first bit, what color is,  in order to master the last, how colors influence each other. Not what paint is, or what dyes are, but what actual color is and how humans perceive it.

Color is Light and Light is Energy!
It is the small part of the electromagnetic spectrum of wave lengths that the human eye sees. When this Visual Spectrum is present we see white light. When individual wave lengths are viewed we see them as individual colors.

Prism

In the 1600’s Sir Isaac Newton proved the physical properties of color when he passed a light beam through a prism, refracting the white light into its separate wave lengths. (If you have a prism, look through it at a light source and notice what happens.)

I’ll discuss more on color in future posts.

If you are interested in having us speak to your organization, (or conduct workshops) contact me at beth@emmott.com or at 700 S. 10th St., Phila, PA, 19147
