Been a while

October 25th, 2014

It’s been a while. Been busy with teaching, still working on my little boats woodcuts, been painting, studying with Paul DuSold, last Sun near New Hope and today and tomorrow in the Wissahickon. Beautiful fall days – so much to learn.

I sold the print I had on display in Finland. very exciting. Took awhile to figure the international finance involved in having payment from Finland end up in my bank. Paypal to the rescue!

Been drawing in charcoal – I’m having my students learn to draw with charcoal and it got me going. I having much fun with it!

My Grandfather’s Mother

July 16th, 2014

This is a rough sketch for a drawing of a Great Grandmother I never knew. My Grandfather’s Mother, Ellen Burton Shaw, lived in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and spun her own yarn – or so I was told. She had 10 children and at least 31 grandchildren. If she did spin her own yarn, I often wonder if she enjoyed it as I do or if it was just another chore? I only have one or two snapshots of her.

Irish Sketches

January 11th, 2013

Raw drizzly day – going through things in my studio and came across these sketches I did when we were in Ireland. I remember exploring with a roughly textured paper and a bamboo reed pen.

Spring

January 10th, 2013

Playing around with some melted, mixed and reformed crayons I was given and it turned into this. Think I’m thinking spring.
